June Book Club?

With finals over, I'm interested in trying to do a book club in June. If there's enough interest, I will post a second poll so members can choose which book we should read for the book club.

The book club post, where members can discuss the chosen book, will go live on Saturday, June 27 (assuming that we do it).

Please let me know what you think!

I've been a member of book clubs before where the members voted for which book to read without any structure, eg: 'this month classic literature, next month thriller, after that speculative fiction', and they always degenerated into arguments that one specific genre gets voted for more than any other.

Yes, I have actually seen a fist fight between book nerds over whether to read Jane Austen or Ray Bradbury.

Speaking of genres, if we can pick one in the same genre as The Thirteenth Tale (by Diane Setterfield) and The Shadow of the Wind (by Carlos Ruiz Zafon), that would be great, just because I'd love to know what books like that might be called so that I can seek them out independently.

I agree on the genre type of book of the month instead of the specific title. Having experience on the other side of book clubs (librarian side) I find that it's easy to get conversations, discussions going when it's more a theme or genre or even author type of selection. I've been trying for 3 years now to get our book club to go this way. It's been a long discussions but they are going that way for next year after two years of testing a mixed specific book or theme book with specific book being used more and they found that the theme months were more fun, livelier and more interesting and with more people joining in.
