Maomao is brought in to inspect a drowned woman. She refuses to touch the dead woman's body, having been forbidden to do so by her instructor, but is able to evaluate several things about the death. Also, there are rumors that she is the one responsible for the attempted poisoning at the banquet.
Maomao investigates into matters of shoes, researches in books about children, notices many plants, determines the loyalty of servants, and learns her own family history, among other things.
