The Untold Story
The Untold Story by Genevieve Cogman
The Invisible Library book 8. Spoilers ahead for the other ones
It opens, for instance, with Irene being packed off alone to deal with the Fae crime lord and get his signature on the treaty. When she gets involved in an attack, his realization of her powers inspires him to sign and get her off.
So the Library discusses how to get at Alberich. They admit he is her father, and how she can act as bait, and how the Library can't be seen to support her. Which involves Catherine's wanting to escape training as a Librarian, what Librarians have been doing, a visit to Constantinople -- this one is less centered on a setting than the prior ones, which I missed a bit, an assassin, many stories, a wasteland, Kai's grandfather, and more.
It puts a definite twist on the way the books have been going.
