Warriorborn
Warriorborn by Jim Butcher
A side story in the Spires series. Before The Olympian Affair, but I think that book benefits from being ignorant of this one, at least for the opening. I don't know how it would read to people who haven't read The Aeronaut's Windlass.
A relatively straightforward caper. Benedict is to go to a spire that has gone silent, and retrieve something. His only help is three people, all warriorborn, but also all people he, personally, arrested for crimes.
It involves treachery, the war, a sack used to imprison, many questions about what locations have doors, fighting, more than one problem, and more.
