Abby in Wonderland
Abby in Wonderland by Sarah Mlynowski
Whatever After in a Special Edition, out of the regular sequence. However, while the main sequence has an arc, and the installments range from no effect on it to quite some development, this one falls in the mild developments, like some of main ones. Reading in order might be wise.
Because there is no school, Abby and Jonah are going -- separately -- to stay at friends' houses. For Abby, that means her, Frankie, and Robin go to Penny's house even though Penny is not quite Abby's friend, or Frankie's either.
Penny insists on playing cards outside, and when one blows away, Frankie follows it -- down a hole. They follow. Shortly thereafter, after falling through all kinds of food (including ketchup), they land in a hall with many doors, and a table with a key, and a bottle saying "Drink me" -- but no Frankie.
Also no Alice.
That Alice's Adventures In Wonderland is not actually a fairy tale gets some play. Also it means Abby didn't read it through.
Hijinks ensue. The Cheshire Cat and the mad tea party in particular get some good nonsense in. It involves the White Rabbit's family, Frankie's not being able to identify a particular bird, Abby's raising objections in court, and more.
