The story is approaching the conclusion. Spoilers ahead for the earlier volumes
The cliff-hanger with Eckles was settled in an aesthetically sound way that was not to my taste.
Penelope's plans for escape grow desperate. The target list is narrowing down. Some of what Ivonne is up to becomes clear, though the format does not help, because the magic is a complex matter.
Penelope is still treating it as a game, and the way game things pop up does not help dissuade her.
