The short answer is 'these are the books we wanted'. As you did not vote for any books, whether written by a man or a woman, your objection seems designed only to generate bad feeling. Inserting unwanted novels purely to fit some arbitrary definition of politically correct brings nothing to this community. In fact, forcing community members to read a book they didn't nominate and didn't vote for is more likely to drive away readers.
