The Eyre Affair review (spoilers ahead)
Fforde's style is mostly flash and fireworks which on a reread doesn't explodes as loud and as colourful as the first time. The high pace action plot is still fun to follow, the establishment of the alternate universe is done well and the reader does believe in this world where books and literature are the foundation of it all.
This is the type of story and style that delivers almost all of his punches in a first read. It loses a lot of flavour on a second read.
