January Book Club - Margaret Atwood (WITH SPOILERS) post

This is where you come to talk about the book of Margaret Atwood you chose to read for the January book club and can rave/rant about the twists and turns of the story. This post allows SPOILERS.

Have fun posting which book you chose, why, isn't any good, is it really, really bad and you are changing book... etc

Well, what I'm reading at the moment is Moral Disorder. My local library didn't have any Guy Gavriel Kay and this was the only Atwood title they had available. I did read the Handmaid's Tale some years back and there may be a copy still kicking about somewhere, but I wanted to go for something else. Something I haven't read before.

First chapter and I'm not sure anything has happened. She gets up, has some coffee... then there's something where she appears to be imagining them in ancient Rome. And still not much happened. But I'll keep on because something might happen (perhaps the first chapter was just to ease us in) and I want to know about this Tig character. Husband? Lodger? What?

Then again, perhaps I'm being unfair. Another book I started this month was The Hobbit and in the first chapter a wizard shows up. When a wizard shows up, you know something rather cool is going to happen.

Aw, so I'm the only commenter Atwood-ing? Never mind.

Finished the book and I'm glad I stuck with it because it did get better.

Although, in the middle there was a sudden shift. It went from being written in first person to being written in third person. That was also around the time I started to enjoy the book. But not due to the POV change (I started liking it in the Headless Horse chapter). I guess that's because the book went from this woman prattling on about her morning coffee to telling me all about this couple who had decided to live out in the country and their triumphs and failures in doing so.

Then the POV went back into first person. No idea what that was for.
