Since I got my Kindle I've been going crazy downloading free samples of any books I come across that sound remotely interesting. Most of the samples are deleted without even trying to remember what the title of the book was, but I also have a long list of books to check out from the library because the sample is just interesting enough to whet my appetite. Adventurers Wanted: Slathbog's Gold was one that was kept on my list.

Alex had one goal for the day: stay away from Mr. Robert's tavern just long enough for him to calm down and not punish Alex for something his step-brother had done. He wandered down a street he had wandered down dozens of times before but this was the first time he noticed the sign in the bookshop which stated "Adventurers Wanted" in big red letters. But when he looked again the sign had changed and a third glance resulted in yet a different sign. Alex is intrigued enough to enter the bookshop and ask about the sign and he unwittingly steps into a new life. The sign can only be seen by those who are destined to be adventurers. After a brief interview process, Alex is signed up as the last adventurer to join a party on their way to try and gain Slathbog the dragon's treasure, which, of course, requires killing the dragon.

Understandably, Alex is skeptical about the whole thing, from the moment he steps into the shop and is interviewed by an elf and a dwarf who are already signed on to the company, to the moment he steps through a magic door into another land and is led around town to gather all the supplies necessary to acquire before starting out on an adventure. But Alex grows more confident as he sets out with his new friends and learns more about himself, his friends, and the magical lands they are journey through. Cut to the spoiler part at my journal
