As in, it opens with their resolving the cliff-hanger from volume 2, and dealing with the villain attack. When the other heroes show up, the villains book, but the work of the young students is noted.

To make it clear that the attack has not thrown them off stride, they go on with the games. This is where young aspirants make their impressions for their future prospects. It starts with an obstacle course.
