100 books in a year
So, Life is hectic and school is overwhelming.
I have found a few strategies to help with the coping although the time management side of things is being slightly less successful.
Only 3 books in the last few weeks
Making Money (Terry Pratchett)
Economics discworld style. As always, entertaining, strange and educational. I enjoyed it. But then, I always do enjoy the discworld, especially when it is an interpretation of real world events. Subtle politics Yay!
The house of dark shadows (Robert Liparulo)
A really fun read: kids move into mystery house, scary stuff happens and someone goes missing. Also social difficulties such as moving to a new city & losing important friends/hobbies - to be replaced by horror :-)
Some cool ideas in the story regarding the type of strangeness etc. I really enjoyed it - read it in a day.
Rise of the blood moon (Alan Gibbons)
This book won a Blue Peter award, and there are some great ideas in it - ruling class falling in love with a slave, undead evil created from the epitome of good according to the world in question etc. Also some very traditional ideas - betrayer becoming the saviour, a band of nine heroes, evil being very obviously evil, salvation lying in the hands of a child/small person/innocent who knows they have to bear the burden and save the world but the burden is hard to bear. Some interesting mysteries and puzzles, but I found it slow going, only one of the characters really seemed to have any depth, and the task of the innocent seemed rather trite (perhaps there wasn't enough detail for my liking or something... I couldn't relate to any of the characters and haven't bothered to read the sequel.
