The continuing adventures of Athanasia. Spoilers ahead for earlier books.
Since the last book ended on a cliff-hanger, of Claude's amnesia.
Obviously, that dominates this book. Felix deliberately shows Claude things to remind him of Athanasia, and explains things he does not remember as being for Athanasia. Claude is haunted by memories -- troubled ones, and unfortunately, he thinks he can get rid of the problem at the source.
There's also a bird, a mysterious but unpleasant man, an unexpected funeral, many (off-stage) disasters, and things with Jeanette and her family.
