Oh, how I hate being disappointed when reading a book. Nothing sticks in my craw more than a book that fails to deliver.

I downloaded a sample of Inescapable (the Premonition Series) by Amy Bartol about a month ago. It was mysterious enough that I wanted to find out what was going on, what was driving the characters, and how the author was going to reveal the mystery, so I bought the affordable Kindle book. I got half way through the book before I started skimming.

I agree with the idea that a book that fails to deliver seems worse than one for which I had low expectations.

If it's a [type of book I don't like] and I can finish it, it's a lot easier to get me to praise it; but if it's a [favorite type of book] and it doesn't sing, I am disappointed because there was so much more potential that was unrealized.

This seemed right up my alley: supernatural mystery, a little romance. I was hoping for a vampire or incubus/succubus, but got something completely different. I would have been happy with what I got except the writing got worse and worse and the story got more and more obvious.

enjoyed the review - but the actual book? i think it would have lost me somewhere between the names and the hockey.

Yeah. But since I paid actual money for it I kept reading. Until it became too much.

I hate when that happens too! I only got halfway through The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet. It is so DULL! I guess I need to try to read it again sometime.....

I've never heard of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet but the title makes it sound interesting. That's sometimes the worst thing about dull books; the titles always make them sound like they're more interesting than they are, making you hope there's something good between the covers. *sigh*
