"Mock Newberys of the Past" recs?
Over on my readallthenewberys project comm, I've decided to add in some excellent books that didn't make the Newbery Medalists & Honor Books list but should have. So I'm looking for recommendations!
Criteria:
* Must have been first published in the US (or concurrently in the US/UK), or if this info isn't readily available, must have a US-linked author or protagonist
* Must have been published after 1920
* Must appeal to some section of "age fourteen and under"
* You must think it's awesome!
