Intro, book review and giveaway

Hi everyone, I'm new here. :-) I love reading, and my favorite genres are YA, middle-grade, science fiction, fantasy and historical fiction. My favorite authors include Catherine Fisher, Meg Cabot, Malinda Lo, Elora Bishop, Eloise Jarvis McGraw, and Cornelia Funke.

I actually was lucky enough to win an ARC of Cornelia Funke's newest book, Fearless, which is book two of her Mirrorworld series. I'll share my review below. :-)

I liked the first book (Reckless) a lot, but Fearless blew it out of the water. Like its predecessor, Fearless is an action-driven YA fantasy. The storyline is riddled with mystery and suspense. The world behind the Mirror is gorgeously realized, with so much depth and so many layers that I feel, even after two books, like we've just scratched the surface of this incredible place.

But what really sets Fearless ahead of the first book in the series is the characters. I felt like I didn't really get to know the characters in Reckless; the book threw us into a story that was already in progress, and the events happening around them were so intense that we didn't get to see much apart from their reactions and survival instincts coming into play.

Fearless, on the other hand, was all about character development. I grew to know and love Jacob and Fox in ways I never thought I would after reading the first book. We learned so much about both of their pasts, and their relationship with each other really blossomed. I also adored the new characters we were introduced to in this story, especially Nerron, a Goyl treasure hunter who is Jacob's most bitter rival; and the mysterious Norebo Johann Earlking, who I am dying to learn more about!

Combined with a story that hooked me immediately (I almost read the whole book in one sitting—stupid humans and their need for sleep) and gorgeous descriptive writing, Fearless was one of the best books I've read this year. It has definitely surpassed Inkheart as my favorite of Funke's books. I feel so incredibly lucky that I got to read this magical tale early!

Thanks to a mix-up with the publisher, I was sent 13 copies of this ARC instead of one. The publisher has asked me to give away the extras, and I still have several copies left. If you are a fan of Cornelia Funke, or are looking for a new YA fantasy to try, you can find the details on this post!
