July Book Club

From the results of the poll

Alternate History it is.

Although Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium 1) is clearly something we might eventually look into.

So....

4 titles or series are clearly favorites. This doesn't mean you can't read another title. It might mean there will be lesser people reading the same book as yours.

Naomi Novik's Temeraire series :

Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's tale

Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series :

Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell

I'm proposing to put up a weekly post (one book a week) with links, reviews already out there, facts, questions, etc for discussions or squees.  (on Friday). I've already read 3 of the 4. Anyone can contribute to the post. Great art, non fiction books about the period, we can even have a movie night for Handmaid's Tale.

We can try a read along post for each book where you can put your impressions as your read (a bit like the update status at Goodreads) of course that post would be full of spoilers. That's would be a given. If more than one person is reading another title let me know we'll put up a separate post.

The Book club discussion post would be up on July 29.

Questions? Suggestions?

I'm looking forward to rereading The Eyre Affair along with Jane Eyre and sinking my teeth into Jonathan Strange. What about you?

I'm not sure I'll reread Eyre Affair (though I did love it), I've been putting off Jonathan Strange so I may just tackle that one when I return from vacation. That's big enough I don't think I'll get to any others.
