Nook! And books (of course)

I've decided I want to buy a Nook! :) It's expensive, but I'm giddy at the thought of being able to take as many books with me as I want in one cute fun device! :D I'm asking for one for my birthday - the only sad part is that my birthday is 3 months away so I'll be waiting a while.

Does anyone here read on a Nook or a Kindle or other type of ereader?

I also want to fix a bad habit of mine. Re-reading old favorite books of mine is something I enjoy, but it's keeping me from branching out and reading new things. I want to read at least 30 new-to-me books this year.

So far I've read the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins - VERY VERY good, my only regret is not having read it sooner. All three were SUPER fast reads, but they were very very good.

I'm in the middle of reading 1421: The Year China Discovered America by Gavin Menzies. It's interesting, but slow-going.

I'm also reading my first Patricia Briggs novel. It's from her Mercy Thomson Series, Iron Kissed. I'm going to go back and read the first 2 in the series when they become available from my library.

The next book I want to read is the novel that the musical Wicked is based off of! That or Eragon, I've been meaning to read that one for a while too.

I just got a Kindle for Christmas and I love it! I'm really excited that they just announced they'll be working with OverDrive to support ebook lending from libraries. :)

I'm too much of a bibliophile to give up buying books to add to my collection, but the ease of reading on the Kindle can't be beat.

Nooks will already work with Overdrive (Kindle's the only holdout afaik, actually). Check your local library website.

The Kindle also has a horrible keyboard, no touch screen, and an awful flashing screen, so yeah.

I recommend checking out [community profile] ebooks!

Gavin Menzies is kind of entertaining read as fiction/alternate history, but he's kind of full of bad research and wishful thinking, I'm afraid.

Wicked is good, although I get the impression the musical is a lot fluffier than the book. Maguire's an interesting author.

I would describe the musical as a high school AU of the book. They have almost nothing in common except the names.

Well, I don't feel vaguely bad for not being interested in the musical at all now...although I hardly remember the book at this point.

I use a Sony ereader on occasion and I do like it. I just don't use it as much as I could. I do have a touch screen which while it works I'm a bit iffy but that's mostly due to my phone being one too and sometimes not working. The good thing is that you can buy from any ebook store unlike Kindle which is just linked to Amazon.

I read on a Samsung Galaxy Tab. Not a fan of e-readers, since they're useless at doing anything else but read and I rdon't fancy toting multiple different devices when travelling.

That or Eragon, I've been meaning to read that one for a while too.

Ehehehe.

The Mercy Thompson series is in my Top Ten of urban fantasy, and Iron Kissed is one of the few books ever that can consistently make me cry. I must have read it a half-dozen times at least by now, but I re-read it recently just to check and yep! Still does it for me.
